Pawnec's Official Venture into the Veterinary Industry at the 29th PAHA Conference
Pawnec's Official Venture into the Veterinary Industry at the 29th PAHA Conference
As I sit down to reflect on our participation in the 29th Philippine Animal Hospital Association (PAHA) annual conference, I am struck by how quickly time has flown since the event took place from October 3-5. The whirlwind of activity and engagement left little room for immediate reflection, but now, seven weeks later, I can truly appreciate the journey we've embarked on.
The conference was a pivotal moment for Pawnec, marking our successful transition from a direct-to-consumer application to a B2B2C veterinary technology platform. This shift was not just a strategic move but a natural evolution of our mission to enhance pet welfare and public health through a universally accessible pet ID.
Pet Pulse Insights
During the conference, we had the opportunity to introduce our innovative epidemic model, which uses advance data model to estimate the dog and cat population in Quezon City. This model not only provides valuable insights into pet demographics but also identifies trends, such as potential uncontrolled breeding grounds for cats in Barangay Bagbag, Quezon City. One such insights this report revealed can direct geo-targeted spay/neuter interventions, offering a data-backed approach to population control.
Our Pet Pulse insights, showcased for Baguio City, Quezon City, and Las Piñas City, garnered significant interest from more government veterinary offices. These insights demonstrate the power of data in shaping effective pet population strategies and highlight the potential for broader application across various regions.
Broader Application of Pawnec's Pet ID
We were pleasantly surprised to discover that our pet ID and pet health management solutions are applicable to government agencies' K9 forces, including the Philippine Coast Guard and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency. This unexpected alignment opens new avenues for collaboration and impact.
We learned that the proper care and training of our brave K9 force is a lifetime duty of their assigned handlers. Similar to individual pet owners in civilian population, these government K9 handlers are individually responsible for the monthly anti-parisitic medication and periodic vaccinations against infectious diseases as they perform their duties on outdoors all over the country.
Illuminating the Unknown: Quantifying Pet Care Metrics
In our journey to understand pet care and its unique intersection between vaccinations and public health, we've encountered a recurring challenge: the lack of quantifiable metrics in pet population management and vaccine compliance. During my discussions with veterinarians, I often pose questions like, "How many of your vaccination patients completed their dose according to your protocol?" and "How many pets are projected to be with outdated vaccines?" The frequent response is a hesitant "I don't know."
"How many pets are projected to be with outdated vaccines?" The frequent response is a hesitant "I don't know."
This uncertainty highlights a widening gap in the current pet-friendly trend—a gap that Pawnec is determined to bridge. Without clear metrics, it's challenging for veterinarians to assess the effectiveness of their protocols or to anticipate and address potential public health risks. This lack of quantifiable information not only hampers individual practices but also affects broader community health initiatives.
By introducing tools that generate and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to these specific vetrerinary cases, we aim to illuminate these unknowns. Our solutions provide veterinarians with the information they need to make informed decisions, optimize preventive care protocols, and ensure that pets receive the timely vaccinations they need. This health informatics-driven approach empowers practitioners to move from uncertainty to clarity, ultimately enhancing the quality of care and safeguarding public health.
We Can Only Manage What We Can Measure
Peter Drucker, a renowned management consultant, famously said, "You can't manage what you can't measure." This principle is profoundly relevant to our work at Pawnec, especially as we strive to empower pet vaccinations and protect public health through veterinary health informatics.
In collaboration with leading veterinary clinics across the country, we're launching pilots for our eHealth Card, point-of-care vaccination workflow, and a pharmacy informatics-oriented veterinary CRM. These initiatives are vital in complementing our successful pilot with the government veterinary clinics and ensuring they cater to the unique needs of Filipino veterinary professionals. By measuring key clinical metrics and outcomes, veterinarians can effectively manage and refine their preventive care protocols and client engagement.

Our approach involves generating epidemiological KPIs to assist government veterinary offices in managing pet populations effectively. These KPIs provide critical insights into population dynamics, enabling targeted interventions and resource allocation.
Simultaneously, we will generate clinical KPIs through our pharmacy informatics-aided platform to help private clinic practitioners optimize vaccination compliance to ultimately drive patient health outcomes. These KPIs offer a comprehensive view of clinical performance, guiding practitioners in enhancing care quality and efficiency.
Our progress was further affirmed by engaging with over 200 veterinarians during the three-day conference. This interaction not only provided invaluable feedback but also strengthened our commitment to delivering Philippine-focused veterinary technology solutions to our unmet pet care needs and public health issues.
A standout moment was Dr. Darwin Bandoy, our Chief Scientific Advisor, presenting the data science methods behind Pawnec's Pet Pulse intelligence. His interaction with the veterinarians who visited our exhibit highlighted the practical applications of our technology in both government and private veterinary practices, showcasing the transformative potential of data-driven insights in veterinary health informatics.
Reflecting on these promising developments fills me with optimism for the future. The PAHA conference was more than just an introduction to the industry for Pawnec; it was a testament to the power of direct collaboration with veterinary practitioners in advancing the containment of rabies and other preventable infectious diseases that threaten our pets and public health. As we continue this trajectory, I am excited to see how our universal pet ID, alongside our veterinary health informatics solutions and client relationship management tools, will shape the industry and enhance the survival of pets and the health and safety of the public.
Pharmacy Informatics: Enhancing Vaccine Management
As we continue to innovate in the veterinary industry, the integration of pharmacy informatics into our platform represents a significant advancement. But what exactly is pharmacy informatics?
Pharmacy informatics is a specialized field within health informatics that combines clinical expertise with information technology to enhance medication management processes and ensure drug administration safety. It plays a crucial role in optimizing clinical workflows, system usage, and data capture, ultimately improving clinical care and patient safety.
For private veterinary clinic practitioners, pharmacy informatics-equipped eHealth Card and POC Vaccination Workflow offer several key benefits:
- Improved Medication Management: By digitizing and organizing vaccination records, practitioners and their clients can easily access and update information, reducing the risk of errors and enhancing public health records.
- Enhanced Decision-Making: With comprehensive data at their fingertips, veterinarians can make informed decisions about treatment plans, ensuring optimal care for their patients.
- Streamlined Workflow: Automating routine tasks related to medication management frees up valuable time for practitioners, allowing them to focus more on patient care and less on administrative duties.
- Better Compliance and Reporting: Pharmacy informatics facilitates compliance with regulatory requirements and simplifies the generation of reports, making it easier for clinics to maintain high standards of practice.
By incorporating pharmacy informatics into our solutions, Pawnec is not only advancing pet health management but also empowering veterinary professionals to deliver more efficient and effective services.
